It would basically require a single scene. Lucifer, sitting on God’s throne, finds out that the Archangel Blade is in the mix. He seems confused, and he teleports to Earth, to some remote location with a nondescript rock-face. He works a spell, revealing the hidden door to one of his “Crypts”. He steps inside, his confusion turning to concern and then to anger as he approaches what appears to be
the Archangel Blade. He picks up the blade, only to see the illusion fall away, revealing an ordinary angel blade.
When Gabriel fled the conflict between his brothers, he took the one and only weapon that could kill an archangel with him, to prevent them from killing each-other, because he still loved them. He then led Lucifer to to believe that the ordinary angel blade he was carrying was the Archangel Blade. We in the audience saw it’s true appearance, while Lucifer saw the illusion. Hence the reason why Gabriel is still alive.
I realize it’s a silly retcon, but I’d be satisfied with this explanation. As for how Gabriel hid from Chuck, perhaps the older pagan gods knew of some *extremely* convincing cloaking spells, and he acquired one from them.
